Explore Punda and Otrobanda

It is a small dessert-like uninhabited island about an hour and a half (15 miles) off of the coast of Curacao. There are a few fishermen who come to fish these waters but it’s mostly visitors who come via the boat excursions. It’s an excellent option to get away from it all and just enjoy the beach, go snorkeling or visit the old lighthouse. Book your excursion ahead of time as they are quite a popular thing to do in Curacao. The tours offer an all-inclusive package of breakfast, BBQ lunch, beach chairs, and snorkeling gear.
Hike up Mt. Christoffel
Curacao’s biggest national park is home to the highest peak on the island called Mt. Christoffel (1,220 ft). There are many indigenous species of plants and animals to be seen in the park’s reserves, so keep an eye out as well as eight hiking trails varying in difficulty level. The trek up Mt. Christoffel is challenging and will take about an hour to reach, but the view on top is worth it as you can see the North shores of Curacao. The national park also has a nice museum about the Savonet Plantation, giving you a look into the history and culture of plantation houses.
See the Hato Caves
The fun will begin right when you hop off of the plane because the Hato Caves are located minutes away from the airport. This guided 45-minute tour will have you go back in time as you discover ancient 200,000-year-old caverns and mineral deposits. Photography is prohibited as it will disturb the local bats that live in the cave. There is also an additional trek called The Indian Trail, which is a self-guided walk you can take to learn more about the natural vegetation of the island as well as find some tribal Caiquetio Indian carvings
Whether you are an advanced diver or a beginner, Curacao is the place to be when it comes to diving. You will be amazed by the wrecks, turtles, coral jungles and even dolphins in the warm tropical waters. There are many diving spots that have been rated as one of the highest in the world by Scuba Diving Magazine. If you aren’t into diving, snorkeling is another great option to explore the kaleidoscope of colors under water. There are many diving schools scattered around the island that offer PADI courses, rental gear and diving excursions.
Check out the Kura Hulanda Museum
The Kura Hulanda Musesum is a fascinating anthropological museum that exhibits a great collection of West African, African Slave Trade, Mesopotamian and Antillean artifacts and art works. If you want to get a deeper understanding about the history of Curacao in the time of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, Kura Hulanda museum will be an enlightening educational moment.
Go On an ATV Tour
Do you want to go on the ultimate adventure? Hop on an ATV and cruise through the rugged northern bush trails of Curacao. These off-road tours will take you to some of the lesser known parts of the island as they are not easily accessible by car. The tours take you through the red sand deserts on the coast, as you zip through a field of enormous wind turbines. There will be a break for you to enjoy a cold refreshment, take a swim in the ocean or watch the surfers at Playa Canoa.
